Hey there, friends! ✨
I know it has been a minute and you probably also noticed that things are different around here. I spent the last week trying to rebuild my brand and changed my portfolio to reflect more of that as well. Needless to say, I needed to come back and make a post to share with you what I've been up to lately. I create a post on Instagram and TikTok if you'd like to go there and support me, but you can also read about it here. Let's get into it!
Visiting the Hawks
For one of our classes, which I'll talk about some more in future posts, we got to visit many in-person locations to learn more about how things worked in "real-life." One of those locations that we went to was the Hawks Arena here in Atlanta. We got a special tour, got to see a great presentation with a group of professionals, and even got some freebies!
From my time there, I got to learn more about their initiatives and the steps they take to make sure that the team and their brand reflects their community: Atlanta. Although we visited other places, this was one that I had to make sure to mention because it was super cool.
Working with awesome brands
In the past few months, I also got the opportunity of working with amazing brands. I made sure to add all the brands I worked with in the past on the Instagram image, but some of those brands are more recent than others. Working as a freelancer has given me a new challenge of getting out of comfort zone and creating content that reflects not only me, but primarily my clients.
In my time working with these brands, I was able to gain some of that knowledge and obtained new sets of skills every time as well. I always get surprised with how we're constantly learning new things every day!
Volunteering
This one deserves a special spotlight because I told myself I was going to challenge myself more this year. My goal was to get out of my comfort zone and to volunteer at sporting events through our program. We have an amazing Sports Administration program here at GSU and it gave me a lot of opportunities to network and volunteer in different places and at different events.
This past year, I was able to volunteer at the SEC Championship game and the CFP Championship that also happened here in Atlanta. I went there with my classmates and we worked together to make sure that guests were having a good time!
Award Nominations
For the first time here at Georgia State I was also nominated to the Royal Flames Graduate Assistant Legacy award. It was super cool to receive the recognition for all the work that I've been doing for the Rec center. Working with this team has been amazing and the prize would've been shared among all my supervisors and wonderful student assistants that make the content creation process even possible. So, shoutout to them as well!
So, what's next?
With another semester of grad school coming to a close, I'm about to go into the Summer. I was very lucky to land an internship here in Atlanta with a print shop as a graphic designer intern for them. From my research, they seem to work with other big brands and organizations located here in Atlanta and I thought that having that experience would be key to gain more skillsets to succeed in the sports world.
After the Summer, I'll be entering my final semester of grad school. I'll be doing my internship as a graduation credit requirement and will still be working as a graduate assistant on campus as well. Even though things will be really busy, I'm still feeling very excited and hopeful for the future.
Post graduation, my plans are to stay here in the United States and to continue working in sports. I feel like that would be either through another master's program or taking advantage of my 1-year OPT. Either way, I'm sure the Lord will open the necessary doors and opportunities needed for me to succeed in the path He has planned for me.
So, like always, thank you for all your love and support. If you have any questions or would like to share an update about your life as well, please feel free to write it in the comments. With that being said, see you soon!
Stay creative,
💌 Sara
