If you know anything about me you know that I love journaling.
Specifically, bullet journaling. I used to have a more active account on Instagram dedicated to bullet journaling because of how much it helps me to stay consistent with my work and to process all the tasks that I have to complete.
As creatives, finding a way to manage our responsibilities and to relax are very important tools that we can have for life. Journaling, specifically, has been known to have a lot of benefits to people in general. As creatives, it can be a helpful tool to manage stress, come up with great ideas, and other things.
I wanted to introduce the idea of journaling to this blog by talking about the benefits of it and how it can be helpful to creatives. So, let's get into it!
Why Journaling Helps with the Creative Process
Journaling is a great tool for clearing mental clutter.
Through writing down your thoughts, you are able to declutter your mind, which makes room for fresh ideas and creative insights.
You can use it to track your progress.
This can be a useful tool for bullet journaling specifically, but journaling allows you to reflect on your creative journey, seeing how far your ideas evolve over time. One of my favorite things to do is to look over old journals and see where my head used to be and how far I've come.
Encourages self-reflection.
Journaling is also a great tool for self-reflection as it allows you to explore your thoughts and your emotions. This process is great because it allows you to go into deeper and more authentic creative expressions, as it may even help you to create work that is reflective of you, its creator.
Boosts problem-solving and aids creative block.
Writing about any challenges you may be experiencing, whether they're creative or not, can help you to break them down. This process may lead to innovative solutions, as you're carefully going through them. This is another reason why I love bullet journaling, or simply writing down anything that I have to complete. When I have a big task to deal with, writing it down in smaller sections helps me to become more confident to face the challenges.
Inspires new ideas.
Any task that allows me to clear my head has shown to be really effective in inspiring me with new ideas. For example, walking on the treadmill has been a great tool for this as I've even dedicated an entire notes section on my phone to these "Treadmill Ideas," as I have great content ideas to write about or even new things to create. On the other hand, regular journaling can lead you to unexpected connections and new ideas by getting your creative juices flowing.
10 Journaling Prompts to Boost Your Creativity
So, now that we've talked about the benefits, I wanted to take some time to encourage you to grab a writing utensil and to think through the following questions. I know that journaling may seem like a daunting task if you don't know where to start, but by starting with prompts you can ensure that you have an idea of what to brainstorm about.
