Embark on a (Sport) Creative Adventure with SightingSara!

Hey everyone!

I always talk about how I'm a "lover of all things creative," and I even try to make that my tagline-- and it's true. For my many years of my life I always enjoyed writing, painting, drawing, reading, and storytelling. Once adulthood arrived and it was time to pick a major, my first decision was something more traditional: nursing. I still enjoyed creating things, but I never thought about those creative things as a career.

My biggest reason for picking nursing was actually because of my love for helping others. I grew up overseas with missionary parents who would spend most of their time dedicating their skills and efforts to serving others and that truly inspired me. However, after my first job on campus, I quickly learned that there are many different ways of helping others aside from taking care of their health. Although now that is super obvious, at the time it felt like a true revelation. Once that deadly virus and quarantine arrived, it was very easy for me to see that the passion wasn't there and it was time to reassess what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I guess this is when my creative career really started.

In 2021, the first year after school had been closed due to the virus, I changed my major to Communications in the Social Media Marketing/Management concentration. I always loved creating content - I had my first blog as soon as I learned how to write and type on the computer. In high school, I had a whole blog for a class assignment dedicated to animal life. It was very easy for me to realize that the passion was still there, it was just a matter of finding it again.

On that same year, I was able to start my journey in sports. You can read more about it here if you're interested, but it was the year I taught myself how to use Photoshop to create graphics and photography so that I could get content from our boys' team in college (this could be a great future blog post to be honest, let me know what you think!). I remember how I used to be so jealous of my friends because they had something that would allow them to "lock in" and forget about the world. This is what creativity became for me. Something that would allow me to turn off my surroundings for just a little bit without even watching how quickly time was passing.

After graduating college, I began working at Georgia State University as a graduate assistant to the Men's Basketball team and then now I'm working with the Recreation Center's Marketing & Media team. A lot of changes happened in my life this year (you can read a life update here), but I've been able to learn so much about myself, my skills, and my God.

So, if you'd like to be a part of this journey as I explore more about the sports world and creativity, I'd love to connect with you on social media. Here are all my links. Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions or anything I can help with related to my career or creative work.

Thank you for being a part of this💙

Much love,

Sara.
